WIP....HEAD STUDY

After a busy day doing paperwork and deciding which paintings are going to Dunkeld's Cathedral exhibition I finally managed to sketch out my next work in progress. Back to horses for the moment although I'll be doing others during this one. Doing multiple paintings is a new thing for me so we'll have to see how it pans out. Another new thing is this is the first time I will have used my own horse as the model. Dougal doesn't count as he adopted us and doesn't really belong so it should be interesting. At the moment it's still an idea.

GOOD NEWS FROM DOWHILL.....

Was good news when I went to help take down the exhibition last night at Dowhill. I had sold two of my paintings, my wee jockey and the wee golden coloured calf. So I'm delighted especially as I didn't think I had sold anything. Of the the five artists only one of us didn't sell so in this economic climate thats pretty good going I think. We've also been asked back to hang a couple of paintings each during the British Open Golf Championship at Turnberry in July so I'm looking forward to that. The scenery around us was stunning as always but the light wasn't so good for photos.....the sea sparkled for us.
Erm.....one or two have said they liked looking at both of my blogs so with a very sheepish grin you'll find the photographs e.t.c. on Images from Caledonia....AGAIN.

"JO JO" ACRYLIC 6X6

"Jo Jo" Acrylic 6x6
Available from Elizabeth McCrindles Art From Scotland website
Copyright 2009 Elizabeth McCrindle
For better or worse have decided that the black calf is probably (lol) finished, well there comes a time when you can't go any further and this is it....hence the reason she now has a name Jo Jo. For those of you new to my blog I generally give my cow/calf/bull paintings a name that I think suits them, which saves me trying to come up with something more imaginative than 'black calf in meadow' :)). Still having problems getting my image on here to look like the original. This is the best I can get and without sounding as if I'm blowing my own trumpet the original is much better and has a warmer glow to it. If you can't bare the thought of her going too market I'll be happy to hear from you. You can contact me at emccrindle@scottishartist.fsnet.co.uk or check the website for details.
Off to Dowhill tonight to take down the exhibition, seems like only yesterday we hung it. Haven't been back down or in touch with them but by accounts I've heard things have been slow. Ho Hum onwards and upwards.
Board is primed ready for a head steady using my beautiful Tara as the model, I'm also working on a larger oil for a client (can't show it till finished) and there's another black calf begging to be painted this time in oils. Enjoy your art where ever you are.

WIP BLACK CALF FOUR

Ok got back from delivering a painting to a client....who was delighted with it by the way and we spent about an hour going round her lovely house looking for the perfect spot. I'm sure she'll change it a million times before it's finally settled. Anyway all the time I was there that black calf was in my head so had to sit down and do some alterations when I got home I'm a bit happier now but there's still a ways to go but at least I'll sleep lol

WIP BLACK CALF THREE

Still a bit of a way to go on this one as I can see more wrong than right with it at the moment. Shape of the calf not quite right although that's not helped by a bit off her being chopped off but I'll soldier on. Small paintings can be a whole lot harder to do than larger ones, but everything is a learning curve and I'm enjoying it. Got another board ready to start so will do that and come back to this with fresh eyes. Taking a painting to a client tonight which is always nice....especially if they like it. She collects art so will be nice too see her collection and she already has one of mine so I'll get the added bonus of seeing what it looks like hung amongst them. Hope you'll join me tomorrow to see what's been on the easel.

WIP......BLACK CALF 2

Started wip this morning concentrating on the head but as this is the holiday weekend I'm going out into the garden for a little while just to rest and contemplate. Love painting black animals and picking up the subtle colours which reflect in their coats and help provide the bone structure. Will come back to this a little later, has got a bit overcast and rain could stop play in the garden lol. So keep an eye out for the next post.

REMEMBER THEM.....

My heart is with those family and friends who for Memorial Day is everyday God Bless

When tomorrow starts without me,and I'm not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes,all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry,the way you did today,
while thinking of the many things,we didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,as much as I love you,
and each time that you think of me,I know you'll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand,
that an Angel came and called my name,
and took me by the hand - from the poem by David Romano
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

WIP.....BLACK CALF

I know there's nothing to look at but a very rough drawing but sometimes theres a lot of time taken up in that rough drawing. I like to think of them as my little maps, there to show the way. At least I'm ready to start straight off tomorrow morning.

BIG HAIR, LITTLE PONY ACRYLIC 6X6

Big Hair, Little Pony Acrylic 6x6 SOLD
Available from my website
Sorry I know this started as a work in progress and has now gone straight too finished. Thought I had photographed the middle piece but obviously not....be forgetting my head next :). He's such a little poser which makes it very easy to capture him......in paint not in a field where he can be a monkey to catch and an escapologist. He was wearing a halter on the reference photos but I left it off as it takes up all off his face, he actually wears what was Rio's (my first horse) foal headcollar and it's still seems too big for him. I'm pretty pleased with the result so hope you like it. This one is available from my website and can be purchased securely with PayPal........anyone out there with a rotund hairy pony they want painting just drop me a line......I also do elegant non rotunds as well lol.
Enjoy your art where ever you are and look in tomorrow for something new from the easel :)

WIP....ANOTHER STUDY OF THE HAIRY ONE

With all the biz of getting things ready for the exhibition at Dowhill it was great to just sit down and start something new. Off course my head started buzzing about what I should start.....landscape, another calf......finally decided after going out and about with my camera looking for inspiration that I would do another study of the hairy monster....he is kinda cute :)
Check back tomorrow to see the progress

PAINTINGS FOR EXHIBITION AT DOWHILL FARM

Flora Acrylic 8x8

Felicity Oils 8x8

The Gaze Acrylic 6x6

The Hairy One Acrylic 6x6

Ripening Crops Acrylic 6x6

Toffee Acrylic 6x6 SOLD

Bertie Acylic 6x6

These are the paintings that will be in the group exhibition at Dowhill Farm, Turnberry. There are five of us putting on a show and we were down there last night hanging the exhibition. Not I have to say the easiest thing or most stress free that I have ever done. With different sizes of paintings and different subject matter wasn't easy to make things blend but think we have.....hopefully. Tonight we go back to label everything and make final alterations as the preview is on Friday night. Have say I'm not the greatest fan of previews but it's something so have to overcome in this business of selling art. This is a lovely venue though with beautiful views across to Ailsa Craig and Arran not to mention a rocky beach which just begs to be painted. Needless to say I'll have my camera with me so hopefully will have a chance to use it.
Footnote...... see if you can notice anything wrong with one of the coo paintings, one of the other artists commented on it last night.....could have kicked myself but too late now lol.

Scudding Clouds SOLD

Big Skies Over Perthshire SOLD
Must seem as if I've been spending more time on my other Blog than here of late. Haven't been painting these last couple of days getting housework and garden in order and things that get set aside when your on a 'run'. Also deciding which is going to Dowhill tomorrow and been picking up new frames, will do my best to post what is going tomorrow. Looking forward to this little jaunt as we have to hang the exhibition ourselves, remember it being fun the last time we were there. You will also notice that Scudding Skies and Big Perthsire have found a new owner.....big smile. Well off to get things labelled and wrapped.......be back soon with new work. Enjoy your art where ever your at.

Cloud Shadow Acrylic 4x4
Available from Elizabeth McCrindle's Art From Scotland Website

This is probably the tiniest landscape I've ever done but I found two beautiful little frames yesterday and this is going to look great in one of them. The frames have an antique silver finish too them and the painting will sit deep in it....just yummy. Also had a bit of a problem getting the image right on the screen is a little lighter in real life but if I made it lighter would have lost the clouds which also have a little naples yellow in them to give a little punch. All in all if I say so myself it's a delicious little painting and would look lovely in a corner wall where there was maybe a table lamp to make it sparkle in the evening.

SCUDDING CLOUDS ACRYLIC 6X6

Scudding Clouds Acrylic 6x6
Available from Elizabeth McCrindle's Art From Scotland website
Was off getting feedstuff for the horses today and thought I'd take the round trip back into Kilmarnock via Craigie Hill. Was just about to turn off for Craigie village when Barn Weil Tower caught my eye to the right. Had my camera with me so thought I'd go take some photos for my other Blog. I have to say the views from Barn Weil on a good day are pretty breath taking and well worth the one track road up to it....praying you don't meet someone coming the other way especially tractors. Today though was pretty much a dead loss as everything was a bit dreicht. This little 6x6 painting is how it should look on a good day.....well how I remember it looking.
Thanks for visiting and hope you'll drop by again soon.

"TOFFEE" ACRYLIC 6X6

"Toffee"
Acrylic 6x6
Available from Elizabeth McCrindle's Art From Scotland Website
Sorry if this looks just a little pale, I'm a bit late getting it photographed and had to use the flash. Was a toss up between Fudge and Toffee for a name but as it's another bull calf so thought I better go with Toffee. Acrylic on a gessoed board measuring 6"x6", this one is destined for the Dowhill exhibition next week but if you would like it gracing your walls email me.
Might be another member of the herd tomorrow or perhaps a little landscape, you will just have to pop in and see.
Thanks for looking in today :)
