Just start another.....

Untitled landscape acrylic 16x16

My artist friend Linda Shantz posted a new work in progress on Facebook the other day. The beginnings of one of her fabulous equine paintings. She said something along the lines of if I'm feeling restless or not happy with any of the wip's I'm working on I start another one. Have to say that sounds a pretty good idea. You may end up with a few pieces sitting around unfinished but the flow of paint hasn't stopped. I know in past posts I've said that's it I'm not posting another work in progress, but, weighing things up I think I'd rather post a work in progress that might get binned than not post at all. Not sure if this will be a go ahead or a go in the bin but I've enjoyed pushing and pulling it this afternoon.
Thanks as always for popping in....

It's always such a pleasure.....

"Sail Past"
Acrylic 6x6
SOLD

It's always such a pleasure when someone emails me to let me know they've just bought one of my paintings. That was the surprise today when I checked my mail. "Sail Past" above has found a lovely new home through the help of the Aberfeldy Gallery. Sometimes painting can be a struggle, it's not every day a painting falls of the brush. But, on days like this when someone contacts me with the news they've bought one of my flock....it makes the struggles disappear.
Hope today has been less of a struggle.....

Taking it slow.....

Last few days have been lovely so I've been taking the oppertunity to get outside. Mainly tiding the garden getting it ready for winter, but also just to be out in the fresh air. There were storm warnings for tomorrow and possibly the next few days so made the best of it. Managed to get a few autumnal photos a well which will finally make their way onto canvas or board.
On the art side I have one or two at various stages but not ready to show. I'm enjoying taking my time over my paintings and feel my work has benefited for it. I do miss posting on my blog though so hope you don't mind some photos until the work completes.
Hopefully the autumn sun is shining on you where ever you are......

"Harvest Hedgerow" Acrylic 6x6

"Harvest Hedgerow"
Acrylic 6x6

Were getting to the time of year now when changes are afoot. Farmers have been coping with adverse weather conditions this year but most around here have managed most of their harvest in. There's plenty of harvest in the hedgerows as well. Bramble's, haws, rosehips and many more. In this wee one today theres still plenty of green on show but the ochres are creeping in.....

The Party's Over.....

An amazing show as the Paralympic flame goes out...

Today I watched the closing down of the London 2012 Paralympics. What an uplifting 11 days it has been lots of happy smiley moments and some teary sad ones. But above all huge admiration for the athletes and the makers of these wonderful games....

From the Scrapbook......

"Bittersweet - sketch"
Sir Alfred Munnings

Been a while since I picked one from the scrapbook so I had a wee rumage for something. Lo and behold I couldn't resist another Munnings....well who could resist a Munnings. This is a unfinished sketch of a horse called Bittersweet most likely a hunter. Delicious......

"Meadowsweet" Acrylic 6x6

"Meadowsweet"
Acrylic 6x6

Feels almost like winter today, cold, wet and dark. Was a relief to be snug an cosy in the studio, painting in acrylics today. This wee painting was inspired by a corner of Farmer C's barley field. They've been late getting it lifted because of the weather and it's starting to bleach. Around the edge of the field has been covered in Meadowsweet if you've never smelt it....it's bliss. The perfume is very faint now but it's still pretty. I've tried not to get to tight with it and the small scale helps.
Thanks for looking in and hopefully it's a tad warmer where you are.....

Someones's watching.......

Mostly when I'm taking photographs I'm out and about at what some folk consider an ungodly hour. I do this because I like my own space. But mostly because one day before I die I'm going to get a photograph of a Roe Deer. I know they are there, I sometimes catch glimpses of them or hear them whispering in amongst the trees. Also the light is better and some critters (apart from Roe Deer) seem to accept a two legged at an early hour and I get the odd good shot. But I can honestly say I've never thought anyone actually noticed me. So I was quite surprised the other day when a lady arrived at my door asking if it had been me who had been photographing her horses. Seems she keeps her horses at livery down past the country walk at Knocklandside. Her mare Holly had a foal this Spring and I had been trying to get some photos of it......not with much success I may add. Seems she and her husband had been having the same problem and she wondered if I had been more successful. I told her I'd put all the photos on a disc for her and try and get some better ones.
So it just goes to show you never know who is watching you.....in fact I was so surprised that she was away and I realised I still don't know how she found me!
Here's some baby photos....

The last one I took yesterday and thought I'd got her perfect. That is until I got home put it on the computer and discovered she had a stick in her mouth....sigh! Painting is a lot easier....smile!

Dunkeld Cathedral part 2

Second part of the photos from yesterday. It's always lovely visiting Dunkeld but in all the time I've delivered paintings, this is the first time I've actually been up close and personal with the Cathedral. It really is worth a visit. It sits alongside the River Tay surround by giant firs. Ancient ones who if only they could speak would tell Scotlands story. Part of it is still a working church while the rest is a constant restoration project. I stood inside a small room at the end which plays host to various pieces of ancient masonry that has been rescued. Some heraldic coats of arms others memorials to those gone past, theres even a piece which is believed to have Viking connections and not in glass cases so you can actually touch the past.
The down side of the trip none of my works sold at the Cathedral Art Exhibition which helps to gather funds for the ongoing restoration fund. Sadly it would seem the current climate has kept the buyers away and funds will be down this year. But retoration will go on regardless with whatever money the project can haul in.........
