"Bruce - A Limousin bull" Oils 8x7

"Bruce - A Limousin bull"
Oils 8"x7"

I hope you all had a lovely day of celebration yesterday. Our celebrations with it just being me, my brother and Spike are pretty low key but enjoyable none the less. With an emphasis on eat and merry with the plus of the Dr Who special.
Today, Boxing Day racing from Kempton was the highlight with a wonderful and courageous race in this years King George. National Hunt racing at it's best, a tough slogging spectacle of courageous horses and jockeys. Long Run grabbing the spoils in a hard fought run from the last, and all home safe.
This morning before the excitement I noticed 'Bruce' sitting in the studio and couldn't resist putting him on the easel for the finishing touches. What a handsome fella he is....smile!
Now I shall retreat back to my comfy seat in front of the TV not sure what's on but hopefully a murder/mystery.

"Christmas Morn" Acrylic 8x8.5"

"Christmas Morn"
Acrylic 8x8.5"

Been a day of playing Santa so I thought I was going to run out of time doing this one and have to post tomorrow. I didn't and here it is, I will be back to bring in the new year but for now I wish each and everyone of you who looks in and those who make comments a very Merry Christmas. See ya in 2013 it's going to be a good year.

"Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!" ~Charles Dickens

"Rocks and Seaweed" Acrylic 8x8

"Rocks and Seaweed"
Acrylic 8x8

With Christmas almost upon us I thought I'd take some time out and relax. It would seem relaxing is not one of my strong points. By the time I'll have relaxed into time off mode we'll be into the New Year.
Seascapes, beaches e.t.c. are not my strong point either but rather than just accept that, I'm making a determined effort to get over it. So this morning I did this little beach scene from photographs I took a couple weeks back. I still have much to learn but I'm rather pleased with this effort...and it didn't feel anything like pulling teeth....smile!
Where ever you are reading this I hope you are finding time to relax and enjoy the Christmas spirit....

Happy Winter Solstice

"Brew me a cup for a winter's night.
For the wind howls loud and the furies fight;
Spice it with love and stir it with care,
And I'll toast our bright eyes,
my sweetheart fair."
~Minna Thomas Antrim

Setting Bruce aside for a bit....

Was going to wait and post this tomorrow but decided to do it tonight instead. Stuck for now as to where to go with it from here so will leave it aside for a bit and come back to it(definately need a different background). One thing's for sure I'm loving painting in oils and I'm keen to do bigger paintings of this fella and other bulls. Hope Santa reads my blog....I need larger brushes and another easel. Time now to relax and get into the Christmas spirit....a wee bit snow would be nice!

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful." ~Norman Vincent Peale

"Mama Cass" 8x10 Oils

"Mama Cass"
Oils 8" x 10"
Commission

The secret is now out and I can at last share Mama Cass. Mama was a much beloved family member and loved by all in general. An all rounder from working hunter classes to film star (she played the part of a Highwayman's mount in a movie of which sadly I forget the name). Sadly she has long passed on so I had to work from photographs. They had to be squirreled away from her Mum as she was to be a surprise gift for a special birthday. Yesterday she was presented and I hear that Mum was delighted.

I wish.....

I'd like to take this oppertunity to thank you all for the encouragement you give me through my blog. To those who have left comments I appreciate everything you write. And, to those who just look it's a comfort to know you are there and I'm not talking to myself...smile! I feel I have let you all down a little this year as I haven't seemed in the right frame of mind to paint. I'm not really one for new year resolutions, I feel when you say them your mind somehow ticks them off as being done. So, this year I'll make a wish.......I wish will all my heart to be a proper artist again.
Thank's as always for looking in.....Elizabeth x

Bruce...a work in progress

Been hard going with Mr Bull, he's been wiped out and painted back in and parts wiped out again. Finally I started to find a rhythm this morning and feel I'm making some head way. Oils are so different from my usual acrylics but that just means I'll have to use them more. Thanks for looking in...

From the Scrapbook....

Been quite a wee while since I've shown something from the scrapbook. This one is from my Munnings collection and not a horse in sight. Beautiful light sweeping across this Exmoor landscape....

Looking forward to a day at the easel tomorrow, hopefully with something to show for it at the end of the day.

My thoughts this evening are with those poor families in Newton, Connecticut whose lives have been changed forever.

Too much Christmas spirit.....

A little two much Christmas spirit....well that's my excuse, meant I wiped off all the work I did on Bruce yesterday morning when I got to the starting in oils stage. I was over cooking, maybe that's a little insensitive when discussing a beef machine....smile! Hopefully not all is lost and I'll be able to salvage something but as I'm always saying doing is learning. I'm also thinking big lads like these need bigger paintings, a bit finicky working in a small scale. There I am thinking big again, just get this one finished first.
A good time was had last night with two good friends, nice food, a wee drink and much laughter and sillyness. Isn't that what Christmas spirit is all about....smile!

Bruce a Limousin....

Started this work in progress today of a Limousin Bull (Bruce). Pretty rough start in arcylic but I will carry on now in oils. He's a lovely boy and I'm looking forward to try and catch his likeness and rich auburn colour.
Thanks for looking in.....

Grumpy starling...

I had such a laugh at the expression on this Starling's face when he caught me taking his photograph. He looked proper grumpy lol!

Escaping the norm.....

Delivering paintings is always a treat, I get to meet up again with those who intrust me to do a good job. I also get to see their faces when they see what I've done, it's a nice feeling to know you've brought joy to someone. Today had the added bonus of a beautiful coastline, which although cold I enjoyed immensely. Even though it might seem I'm playing hookie, just you wait, some of this inspiration is going to rub off.....

Finished the moo study....

Finished the scketch of the moo I've been working on. Pleased with it but theres room for improvement, as always. One thing I did find was it was good for winding down with between the paintings I'm working on. So I guess you can expect a few more pencil and paper studies......
Hope your having a great weekend where ever you are and thanks for taking a look.
