Pixie, kobold, elf, and sprite,
All are on their rounds tonight;
In the wan moon's silver ray,
Thrives their helter-skelter play.

"Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow." ~Douglas Pagels

"Autumnal Coastline" Acrylic 6"x6"

"Autumnal Coastline"
Acrylic 6"x6"
Cutting it fine, but, finally after a few last minute adjustments I've decided this one will be going to Aberfeldy tomorrow. Well it was actually more than a few, because after footering with the foreground I needed to soften the distant coastline. I'm really quite pleased with this!
British summertime ended today and just in case there was any doubt it's cold and wet...oh and dark as well. Mind you I did get to enjoy my extra hour in bed as the furbabies were feeling lazy too.
Well, I'm going to slip this one into it's frame wrap it up and then put my feet up for the rest of the day.
Thanks as always for looking in.....

"Two White Sails" Acrylic 6"x6"

"Two White Sails"
Acrylic 6"x6"
One of four paintings I'll be taking to Aberfeldy this coming Monday for the Christmas Exhibition 2 November - 4 January 2014. Had problems photographing it, the blue's are a lot softer in the actual painting.
Not sure where the years has disappeared to but looking forward to an extra hour in bed tomorrow as British Summertime finishes and the clocks go back. Not looking forward to the dark mornings and evenings though......

Yesterday I took my paintings down to a rather wet Rozelle Park for the Ayrshire Showcase Exhibition at the Maclaurin Galleries. The exhibition is hanging in Gallery 1 (22 October - 19 November) anyone living in the area please pop in for a look. I'm exhibiting with two other Ayrshire based artists Dorothy Fisher and Dede Morton. Gallery 1 is also home to the Maclaurin's shop and it is cheerfully ladened with all things Christmassy. I know October might be a bit early to start thinking about Christmas but Christmas decorations and ornaments make me feel nostalgic at  virtually anytime of the year

This wee cutie is the newest addition to the family, Lily, a four year old pomeranian. I picked her up on Sunday, she really is itsy bitsy teeny weeny and a wee bit shy. Now Wednesday and she's coming out of her shell a bit but it will take time but you can see for yourself she's making herself comfortable :)

Lost time.....

Yesterday was a lost day of moving between Crosshouse and Ayr hospital. Brother Steven has been having on going treatment for eye problems. His last appointment back in January was thought to be a success but recently I've had a feeling he was having problems seeing. Finally got him to admit it last weekend and then managed to get us fitted in with an appointment. Cutting the story short the consultant wasn't pleased and wanted us to come to Ayr later on the day for laser treatment. Treatment was over in's all the hours in between that are killer's. Thankfully his sight is much better but he still can't see to read smaller print.
I managed to get started on the second half of the duo in Ruby and Mabel's portrait and after the usual moment of panic when you feel like you can't get it right it suddenly looks promising.......who would be an artist!

Family photo...

Photographed these guys the other day and they reminded me that it's been a wee while since I painted a moo. Still time to grab myself some more images before they disappear into the sheds for winter. And I'll have plenty of inspiration to see me through the winter months in the studio. That said I'm probably going to be concentrating more on my landscapes and even trying my hand at painting some of them in oils.

Changes are afoot....

I know that to some there probably doesn't look as if much has changed in the portrait but the background had been giving me grief. And the right eye (that's our right) was much too bug eyed and needed softening. As I've got older I don't do grief as well as I used too small things can become big issues. Silly I know but getting in a strop has been

Frost arrived yesterday morning. Just a little ground frost in shaded areas but a warning never the less that the glorious days we've had are in retreat. Thankfully most of my Spring bulbs are in but I better get the rest done over the weekend.

The fuzzy head of this willowherb just about sums up my head at the moment. All that twisting and turning not to mention the cotton wool. I need a change, so, after I've completed my remaining commissions I'll close the order book. Don't actually have an order book but you get my! And then, just paint anything and everything that takes my fancy.......sounds like a head clearer!

Ruby and Mabel a work in progress.....

Now starting to work in oils on this commissioned portrait of Ruby and Mabel two lovely wee wire-haired dachshunds. Not a particularly good photograph, the actual painting is much better. Feels good to be working in oils again, they can be a bit more forgiving than other mediums. Plus I seem to be able to work with them again without my eyes stinging and my lips swelling and tingling....always a bonus. Stay tuned for more progress......

A day of tail chasing....

Today was a day for chasing tails and not getting any painting done...bah humbug. But tomorrow looks a little brighter. Not weatherwise I'm told but at least my bum should sit long enough to get some painting done. No art so a plant from the garden. Can't remember it's name but the bee's love it and it's one of the wildlife flowers I planted this year.
Wee bit chilly tonight but where ever you are I hope your feeling warm and snug....

Looking and Learning.....

There's football on the television this evening, which means I either do some housework, read a book, surf the internet or doodle in the studio. I doodled, well actually I found the wee study I had started of Buttons and stretched my fingers by working it a bit more....not sure I made such a good job but I figure doing something is better than doing nothing. Anyway's I've gone as far as I will be going and as Poirot would say my little grey cells have been exercised.
Meanwhile Mother nature always get's it just right. Isn't this young starling below just perfect. Still with some of his or her baby down and the adult plummage coming through. Ah well that Mother nature as been at this job for a wee while. I'll just have to keep looking and!
