"Study of a Golden Eye"

"Study of a Golden Eye"
Acrylic 8"x7.25"
£250

This is as far as I'm going with this one, it's sometimes more difficult to know when too stop. I like the unfinished state and think it will look great once it's all framed up. Hopefully will get it popped into the framer tomorrow.
I'd like to just take this oppertunity to wish all my friends and followers in the US a very happy Thanksgiving Day....don't eat to much turkey!

Torrance Gallery Christmas Exhibition 30th November - 11th January 2014

"Summer's Flush"

"Ripple Through the Meadow"

"Morning Sun"

"Study of a Bay Mare"

Journeyed up to Edinburgh this morning with these four for the Christmas show at the Torrance Gallery in Dundas Street. We are starting to get that wintery feel now, motorway signs flashing about cold temperatures and icy conditions and fog. Was actually quite pleasant in Edinburgh, sunny even.

This one is back on the easel. I had intended making it a finished painting but now think I'll just make a few more suggestive strokes and leave it. Something to relax over tomorrow :)

"Last Light" Acrylic 6"x6"

"Last Light"
Acrylic 6"x6"

"Last Light" and a few of it's friends took a trip to Troon with me today. They will be hanging in the Framework Gallery . On the way home I had a short walk on the beach and took some photos, was a wee bitty nippy and the light was that great so didn't waste much time on getting back to the car.

Getting decidedly colder out these days. But, the beauty of painting in the studio, is it can be anytime of the year. Some sunny summer cottages to remind us of warmer days.....

If someone had told me a couple of years back that I would be painting and enjoying painting beach scenes.....I would have laughed at them. I've always enjoyed my walks along the beach but have never really applied myself at capturing it in paint...until now.
Thanks as always for looking in......

Frosty start to the morning....

Very frosty start to the morning -6C when I started the car. Love these fresh sunny starts even if my fingers feel like they are going to snap off. Was a lovely walk, you could actually hear the leaves snapping off the trees and shrubs, snap, crackle and pop. Young starlings on the bottom photo were glad of the seed I put out for them, although the gardens still has quite a lot of food for them.

Third time lucky with a painting and time spent in the garden

"Touch of Autumn, Aberfeldy"
Acrylic 8"x8"

For the third and final time I've made some alterations 'again' to this wee landscape. One of my followers on FB suggested it needed a bit more. There was no middle ground and it needed a stronger foreground. So I've deepened the foreground and although I've left the colour values the same in the middle I decided to open up a little more space amongst the trees. I like it as it is now and don't want to change anymore.
Spent the rest of the day starting to put the garden to sleep. It's not too bad actually just needs a little tiding and a lot of bulb planting. I seem to have gone a little over exhuberant in the bulbs but hopefully they'll survive the harsh winter that has been forecasted.
One of my jobs today was to move the bird station back nearer the house, so I don't need to go far to put out feed for the birds. Actually I had been getting worried about my wee sparrows as they seemed to have been absent for a while. They must have been hanging back to get me to move the station. I moved it filled the dishes and hangers and they were covering it like locast before I got back in the house.....as you can see I also had a couple of unpaid labourers....smile!

"Touch of Autumn, Aberfeldy" Acrylic 8"x8" re-vamped

2nd attempt

First attempt

You might remember this one from way back in September. Although I like it at the time, the more I looked at it I felt it needed a more autumnal look. So this morning I whipped it on the easel and had a go at getting autumnal. I like it much better now....smile!

November...

November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring
