Sunny days....

"The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time" ~ Abraham Lincoln
Having some lovely weather here in Bonnie Scotland. Off course now that I've said it, it will be all! In fact as I type this some cloud has come over and blocked the setting sun. The room I call my studio get's the sun in the evening and the last few evenings have been stifling. Cooler tonight so I shall paint till my eyes tire.
Enjoy the rest of your evening where ever you are and thanks for looking in.....

"The Path" Acrylic 6" x 6"

"The Path"
Acrylic 6" x 6"
A wee cheer you up painting I did today for a friend who isn't too well at the moment. We both enjoy walking this path in the morning. She hasn't managed along it for a wee while so hopefully this will remind her of how it looks. Made a few wee changes in the studio  by just getting rid of junk and it's freed up a bit more space. Definately doesn't feel so cramped so I'm a happy!

"Gypsy Foal" Oil 8" x 8"....revamped!

"Gypsy Foal"
Acrylic 8"x 8"
Those who follow the blog will remember me painting the wee sketch below back around the beginning of May. Well all that time it sat in the studio staring at me. Someday's it got ignored with the thought it was just a wee sketch going nowhere. But, nothing is ever just a wee sketch. So. today I finally decided to make some changes. Firstly he was a chunky wee foal and I had left his neck too skinny and secondly he needed more texture in his fluffy baby coat.
Now it is much better and definately!

Guess Who?

Was in the cupboards at the top of the wardrobe in my brother's room this evening getting a duvet cover and pillowcases. That in turn reminded me that the cupboard on the otherside was filled with net curtains that needed to go. Lifting them down I found a box, I knew immediately what it was but was surprised to find it there. I thought it had gone to auction with a lot of other 'treasure's' after Mum went into a nursing home. I'm guessing that's a sign it was meant to stay, it might even get hung if I can find the right spot.
So, all my horsey, arty followers whose going to be the first to tell me who it is???? Sorry no prizes up for grabs.

POST NOTE....It is off course the hugely talented racemare Ruffian beautifully captured by the gifted artist Fred Stone...

Too Warm.....

Way to warm here in Scotland, well too warm for this artist. Thankfully and I am sorry for those who enjoy being a greasy spot on the rarely lasts. I really should get a fan for the studio, because if I don't paint in the morning, the sun has moved round to the back of the house by the afternoon and I get cooked. I then have to wait until 8 oclock before it's bearable to sit. Now it's at it's most pleasant the window is open, the sun has dropped behind the distant hawtorn and the blackbird is singing it's evening song. Bliss!
Decided to leave Tonto's sketch at this point, it's only a sketch and if I carry on I would overdo it and defeat it's purpose......
I shall return, that is if I haven't melted, thanks for looking in :)

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the blue sky, is by no means waste of time." ~John Lubbock

Now is the hour....

Oil study of Tonto approx 10" x 12"

You may recognize this study of Tonto (Silver By Nature) from one I did earlier, it was in acrylic while this one is in oils. I'm getting my eye in for a much larger than the norm piece (for me) of Tont and some of the other's in the Dalkey Sound clan. I've planned and re-planned this painting over the last couple of years. It's been started, stopped and scrapped more times than I care to say, but now is the hour. I hope you'll come along for the ride.........

"Fading Arran" Acrylic 8" x 8"

"Fading Arran"
Acrylic 8" x 8"
Carried on today with the wee seascape I started yesterday and this evening called it finished. Worked mostly on it this afternoon but wasn't quite sure it was there when I finished to get dinner ready. Came back to it this evening with fresh eye's and decided to alter the foreground. It looked to me like someone had drawn a line through it so I pulled more pockets of water down....happy now!

Work in progress....seascape

Beginnings of another seascape. Trying out some clear gessoed linen panels I got a couple of months ago. So far so good lovely surface to work with Pebeo was a new name to me but would happily endorse it. I'm looking forward to doing a head study on this size (8" x 8" ) and will have a check to see what other sizes they have.
Well that's the first day of Summer nearly over and typically it's rained for most of the day...kinda dreicht as they would say in my neck of the woods. Thanks as always for looking in hope you'll visit again to see how this wee one turns out......
