"I talk to him when I'm lonesome like; and I'm sure he understands. When he looks at me so attentively, and gently licks my hands; then he rubs his nose on my tailored clothes, but I never say naught thereat. For the good Lord knows I can buy more clothes, but never a friend like that." ~W. Dayton Wedgefarth

"Last Silver Light" Acrylic 6" x 6"

"Last Silver Light"
Acrylic 6" x 6"

Was sifting through older discs of photos for some inspiration, when I came across photos I had taken  a few years back. We had been at Dowhill Farm (near the Maidens) hanging a group exhibition of paintings in the Farm's restaurant/tearoom. By the time we were finished the sun had started to go down and there was a beautiful light on the sea. This was literally the last sliver of light being cast on the sea, a silver slash that was so intense it made your eyes water. Was a lovely drive home alongside the coast that night.
Snow arrived back last night and there's still a fine covering this morning with more on the way, glad to be cosy in the studio.
Stay warm where ever you are and thanks for looking :)

"Dappled Path" Acrylic 8" x 8"

"Dappled Path"
Acrylic 8" x 8"
Too be auctioned at the Little Paintings Make Hansel Grow Art Event in aid of Hansel Foundation
at Lochgreen House Hotel, Troon
9th - 11th March 2015

I'd like to say this wee eight by eight just flew of the easel, but this is actually my third attempt. The first two were actually seascapes, neither of which were worth a bar of soap. So, this morning I decided on a different tactic, change the subject matter. Normally when it goes this wrong I resort to a horse, but as this painting is for a charity auction I decided a rural scene was probably more neutral to an audience. Fortunately everything flowed and I have to say I'm quite pleased with the finished!
Thanks for looking in, I'll be back soon :)

Finally....the snow arrived!

After everyone else seemed to have it, we finally got! Now I know that for people who need to get to and from work e.t.c. it can be a bind. But, for someone who is one, still a kid at heart and two, works from home, I was feeling a wee bit left out. Took these photos this morning, first four in the garden and the bottom one out the studio/bedroom window. I had hoped to go a bit further afield but the gritters haven't been out and it's a wee bit slippy underfoot. Falling on my backside wouldn't cause much grief with all the extra padding but, knowing my luck I'd break an arm or wrist.

Just a wee bit progress on the moo.......

A few too many distractions has held up progress on the moo, I really need to organise myself better. But I managed a wee bit on it today and I'm pleased with how it's coming!

A Moo in progress....

Back to work today all bright eyed and bushy tailed. Mind you I haven't really accomplished very much and felt a wee bit rusty. That said what I did get done I enjoyed immensely been quite  a while since I've attempted a moo. Started off by just sketching it straight onto a piece of 6" x 6" mdf. Then I washed over the whole drawing with acrylic cadmium red to give a base that will show through. Once dry I started in oils, palette contains Titanium White, Ultra Blue, Paynes Grey, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Red Cadmium, Naples Yellow....
Thanks for!

"Smell the Salt Air" Acrylic 6" x 6"......first painting of the year!

"Smell the Salt Air"
Acrylic 6" x 6"

Wishing you all a Happy New Year, here's hoping it's going to be a good one where the inspiration flows and the easel get's plenty of Made a good start with this first painting of the year. There has been a few rough seas lately and with rough seas you get debris on the beach. I kinda liked the zig zagging it created. I was stuck for a wee bit trying to think of a title when it struck me, sitting looking at the painting I could imagine the smell as well as the sight. The same smell that sets the dogs of in the car when they realise they are going to the beach....seaweed and!
Have a great first day of the year whatever your, I'll be watching the racing from Cheltenham and Musselburgh, of course!
