"Fresh Fields and Cow Parsley" Acrylic 6" x 6" £190

"Fresh Fields and Cow Parsley"
Acrylic 6" x 6"

The fields are certainly getting greener and soon the cow parsley will be appearing in the hedgerows. Some of the cows are back in the fields after being in the sheds over Winter. Summer is just around the corner.

Had a wee trial with Atelier Acrylics

As I mentioned on another post I had been giving the heads up about Atelier Acrylics as a substitute for oils. Sadly I've developed an allergic reaction when working with oils, even water based ones. A facebook friend Renee Fukumoto suggested these. Have to say I was a little dubious but right from the get go I was impressed with how they felt. I used a piece of mdf measuring 6" x 6" and painted straight on to it without any gesso. First day I only did the eye in the top image but was pleasantly surprised by how much they felt like oils, they have a juicy, buttery feel to them and are slower to dry than normal acrylics so it makes working wet on wet much easier and they blend beautifully. The following day the paint had dried as normal acrylics would so I used the water spray on the board, dabbed off some excess water and worked into the painting wet on wet. Really pleased with the result though in future I think it would be better to either gesso the board or gesso with clear gesso if you want the effect of the board coming through. Like oils it tends to suck in the paint. But I'm really happy and can't wait to get started proper with them and see how they!
Thanks for looking in...Elizabeth :)

Full circle...

When my Dad died in 2002 after all the funeral stuff was over I gave my Dad's ring to my Uncle Joe as he didn't have one and Steven already wore his grandfather's. Well yesterday my cousin Jim popped in for a visit. When we were sitting having a cuppa and a blether he handed me a wee velvet pouch. Inside was my Dad's ring, he had found it amongst jewellery when he was clearing my Aunt and Uncle's house after Uncle died last Boxing Day. I was really very grateful to him for giving me it back and it was the strangest feeling when I held it in my hand. Like a warmth, as if it had come home. Most days I've been ok, I'm one of those kind of people who can be happy in their own company but somedays I do miss the little circle Mum, Dad, Steven and I had. I felt my Dad was there when I put that ring on as if it had come back full!

Still playing catch up..."Cloud's Over Ayrshire" Acrylic 12" x 12"

"Cloud's Over Ayrshire"
Acrylic 12" x 12"

Still playing catch up on the blog with work that hasn't been on here. Thoroughly enjoyed myself painting this one as I love painting cloud's. Thankfully living in Ayrshire I can get plenty of practice painting them as our countryside is pretty much rolling fields and big skies. This one is currently available through the Framework Gallery in Troon. So, give yourself a treat, a look through a lovely gallery (Buy one of my paintings ;) lol), a wander round the shops and then a stroll along one of the beaches, followed by some ice cream or maybe even a fish supper, sounds just perfect :)
This afternoon I'm going to try out some new acrylics one of my facebook friends (Renee Fukumoto) gave me the heads up about. You might remember that I suddenly started having an allergic reaction to oils, I miss using them desperately, especially when painting animals. These Atelier Acrylics are supposed to be the nearest thing to painting in oils, so I'll let you all know how they go.
Thanks for looking!

"Cold Walk, Barassie" Acrylic 8" x 8"

"Cold Walk, Barassie"
Acrylic 8" x 8"

Coming into the last week of the Spring Exhibition at the Torrance Gallery in Edinburgh, so if you haven't seen the exhibition you haven't much longer as it closes on the 29th April. Weather hasn't really been very spring like these past few days, could really do with it warming up a little.
Thanks for looking in...

"A Whippet Called Isla" Acrylic 8" x 8"

"A Whippet Called Isla"
Acrylic 8" x 8"

Finished the Study of Isla the whippet (I shared some work in progress photos a couple of days ago) this afternoon and I'm really quite pleased with the result.  Yesterday was spent in the front garden giving the grass its first cut and doing some tiding. Going to take a wee while to get the garden into some sort of order as it has sadly been neglected these past couple of years. Should keep me out of mischief when I'm not in the studio.
Time to wind down and get dinner on, thanks for looking!

"Spring's New Greens" Acrylic 16" x 16"

"Spring's New Greens"
Acrylic 16" x 16"

This was a new painting I did especially for the Spring Exhibition at the Torrance Gallery in Edinburgh. Spring seemed to be taking so long to come and the beauty about being an artist is you can transport yourself to any any season you want. Love the fresh greens in this one and just a smattering of spring flowers for contrast. It's currently on show at the Torrance Gallery's Spring Exhibition which runs until the 29th April .
Holiday Monday and though still pretty fresh  there's a wee blink of sunshine so hopefully I'll be able to give the front garden it's first cut.
Thanks for!

It's Good to be Back...

The other day I was having a blank moment with a painting and I found myself thinking about my old blog. So I took a wee peek, that's a bit like opening a bag of Malteaser's and expecting only to eat two or three. As I scrolled through the pages I started to get a wee bit homesick for the good times I had spent here. A few days further on and here I am sitting at the screen typing, and it doesn't feel as if I've been away. Mind you it's not as if years have past it's only been three months. Quite a bit has changed, I find myself alone now trying to get back into my painting full time. My brother Steven that I was carer too passed away suddenly in January and I find myself with a newfound freedom that I'm still trying to come to terms with. Someday's are easier than others but now as the days are lengthening things are getting better. I'm back at the easel, someday's more confidently than others and it feels right to come back here where I've always enjoyed sharing my work.
There are a few pieces that those of you who aren't on facebook won't have seen, but there will be time later to share them. So for now I'll share the painting I was working on today. It's a work in progress of "A Whippet called Isla", it's in acrylics as I'm still having problems using oils.
So thanks for looking in, it's good to be!
